RegressLogistic download
RegressItLogistic is an enhancement of RegressItPC that includes logistic as well as linear regression. (It runs only on PCs, not on Macs.) The logistic procedure produces highly interactive table and chart output and it can perform out-of-sample testing. It can fit logistic models with up to 20K rows of data and 60 independent variables. Larger logistic regression models can be fitted via the R interface. For instructions and examples of how to use the logistic regression procedure, see the logistic regression pages and the RegressItLogisticNotes document as well as the sample data and analysis files whose links are below. The Titanic and GLOW files contain the same analyses that are presented on the web pages.
Please read the Terms of Use before proceeding. Also see the RegressIt slide show to get a quick overview of the program features. Then follow the instructions below to download and test the program. The contents of this web page are also available in pdf format at this link: RegressItLogistic_download_instructions. The same instructions accompanied by screen shots and more details of features can also be found in the installation instructions document. If you encounter any technical problems, please visit the support page for details about how to fix some common issues and how to request tech support if needed.
If you downloaded the program previously, you should update it if your version is no longer current. The latest version date is 2021.12.14. To update your version, just replace your old copy of the program file with the latest one and unblock it before first use as described below.
To install and run the program you just need to download the RegressItLogistic.xlam file to a convenient location and tell your computer that it's OK to run. RIGHT-click the file download link and choose the "save link as" option, then put it in a convenient folder and unblock it (right-click on file name in File Explorer, then choose Properties/Unblock/Apply/OK). A new analysis project should begin with a data file containing a single worksheet on which data is arranged columnwise with variable names in the first row. Hit the Select Data and Create names buttons on the RegressIt menu to assign the names, and choose (only) the Top Row option. Then hit the Descriptive Statistics or Linear Regression or Logistic Regression buttons to get started with your analysis. Complete details are given below
The program contains built-in documentation on its toolbar and in its dialog boxes. However, it is recommended that you should begin by reading the installation instructions and follow the directions at the bottom of this page for running the models in the test file to make sure that everything is working on your computer and to get a quick overview of analysis and output options. If your computer has non-English language or number format settings you may need to make some adjustments. The user manual and modeling advice documents and the pages on this web site provide more details of the many program features and how to best use them. The test file also includes some teaching notes on regression analysis. The videos (on the Videos page) walk through some similar examples and demonstrate the program features. For instructions on how to begin using it right away with your own data, see the get started with analysis page.
If you have concerns about security, please note that successive versions of RegressIt have been distributed to the public on this web site without incident since 2014, and it is well known. Just google "Excel regression add-in." It has been used in teaching at Duke University and many other schools, and it is also widely used by practitioners. Its only interactions with your computer outside of Excel are to place text on the clipboard or write text to CSV files when interacting with RStudio. It does not embed any executable code in Excel files in which analysis is performed. It merely adds ordinary worksheets to the files. If you want to remove it from your computer, you only need to delete the program file. Just be sure that your copy is an authentic one obtained from this web site or another trusted source.
If you try it and enjoy using it, please pass the word along to your colleagues or classmates. We welcome your comments and suggestions at feedback@regressit.com.

Installation and testing:
Create a new folder in which to store your RegressIt files (e.g., Documents/RegressIt). Then use one of these two links to download the program file.
Then follow these instructions to run the program for the first time:
Create a new folder in which to store your RegressIt files (e.g., Documents/RegressIt). Then use one of these two links to download the program file.
- RegressItLogistic program file: RegressItLogistic.xlam (version 2022.12.14) Right-click this link and choose the "save link as" option to save it to your new RegressIt file folder.
- RegressItLogistic program file in zip form: RegressItLogistic.zip. Use this link instead if your computer will not allow the direct download of an executable file or if you also want to download the pdf files with documentation. Right-click this link and choose the "save link as" option to save it to the RegressIt file folder. (Also follow the extra "keep" step for Chrome and Edge as just mentioned.) Then right-click on the saved file and choose "unzip to here".
Then follow these instructions to run the program for the first time:
- "Unblock" the program file by going to the File Explorer, right-clicking on the file and choosing Properties/Unblock/Apply/OK. This only needs to be done once.
- You should CLOSE THE FILE EXPLORER WHEN RUNNING ANALYSES because it may cause errors when producing non-editable graphs.
- To run the program, start Excel, open the RegressItLogistic.xlam file, and click either "Trust all from publisher" or "Enable macros" at the security prompt. You can click either to run the program, but if you choose the trust-all button you will not see the security prompt in the future (not even for updated versions)
- You should see a RegressIt tab appear at the top of the Excel window, and when you click on it you should see the ribbon interface pictured above. Click the "Instructions" button at the far right for details on how to load data and begin your analysis.
- If the enable-macros prompt does not pop up and the RegressIt ribbon does not appear, go to File/Options/Trust Center/Trust Center Settings/Macro Settings and check to see that the "disable-with-notification" option has been chosen there.
- If the program file will not download or if it fails to launch even after you have unblocked it and checked the macro security level, you may need to download it in zip format using the alternative link above, and then unzip it and unblock it.
- A new analysis project should begin with a data file containing a single worksheet on which data data is arranged columnwise with variable names in the first row. These should include only letters, numbers, spaces, and/or periods. Hit the Select Data and Create names buttons to assign the names and choose only the "Top Row" option. This only needs to be done once.
- See the support page if you encounter any other issues.
- You cannot open the file directly from this link or from an e-mail attachment: nothing will happen. You must save it first.
- If you want to e-mail the program to others, please give them a link to this page or the RegressIt home page, not a direct link to the file nor an attached copy of the program file itself, so that these directions will be included and the file will be secure.
- To test the software, click the following link to download a file that already contains some analysis: RegressItPCTest.xlsx. Visit each analysis worksheet in the test file, click the Descriptive Statistics or Linear Regression button at the left end of the RegressIt ribbon according to the sheet type, and click the Run button to re-run the same analysis. You should see an almost-identical worksheet appear.
- On new descriptive statistics worksheets, the output will be hidden at first. This is to avoid overwhelming you if a huge amount of output has been produced. (There could be dozens or even hundreds of charts for large sets of variables.) Click the "Show all" button in the "Worksheet" group to show all the output. Alternatively, click the "+" signs in the left sidebar to open up one block of output at a time. The new regression worksheets will look slightly different from the originals because the counter in the model name will increase from 0 to 1.
- For instructions on how to begin using RegressIt with your own data, see the get started with analysis page.
- The user manual and modeling advice documents and the pages on this web site provide more details of the many program features and how to best use them. The videos (on the Videos page) walk through some similar examples and demonstrate the program features.
- If your computer has non-English language or number format settings you may need to make some adjustments, as described here: RegressItPCNumberFormatSettings.pdf. Numbers must be formatted with a period as the decimal separator and a comma as the grouping separator (i.e., one thousand and one tenth should appear as 1,000.1 rather than 1.000,1).
- If you want to add RegressIt to your list of installed add-ins so that it appears on the menu automatically in future sessions, go to File/Options/Add-ins and then click the "Go" button at the bottom of the screen (next to "Excel add-ins"). You'll see a dialog box that lists your installed add-ins. Click the "Browse" button and navigate to the location of the RegressItPC.xlam file and open it. That should add it to the list, and it will appear on the Excel menu by default in future sessions if its box is checked. Note: if you update your copy of the program, you should replace the existing RegressItLogistic.xlam file in the same folder. Don't have 2 different versions in 2 different folders on the add-ins list.
